True of False
Everyone has fallen victim to popups on the interned offering free products such as ipods and vacations. The question is wether there popups are true. One goes through a quick investigation similar to the research process. One would ask why the web page might offer such gifts, who exactly is offering these gifts, who can win them if it is true. After these questions are established, the person should investigate the web page. Is it a well known company that can be trusted. This might be done by looking at names of people or of the companies that own and run the web sight. The person might also investigate through the web page why the company is giving away these prizes. The person might have previous experience with filling out popup ads for gifts. The investigator might also go as far as filling out the information to get the prizes and see what the end resultant is. If the person believes the advertisement to be true there is not reason they should not trust the sight to be truly offering products. That seems to be highly unlikely though since I am sure we have all fallen for these ads just become disappointed when nothing comes of it. However, the process is much smaller but very similar to any research process. There is a chain of events that brings us to a conclusion about the situation.
Ads
Just five minutes ago I was catching up on a television show I watch. Since there are designated commercial breaks while the show is aired, online the television companies sells advertising spots to one advertisement or company. Since the show is online these commercials last about thirty seconds but this is a great time for a company to sell products. This may be because it is the only advertisement, not one of twenty, the individual sees at the breaks. These advertisements seem to have large influences on me. Even if i may not be the target audience I enjoy most of these ads. For example, today there was one for a scrubbing bubbles product. A product that cleaned the toilet and disintegrated after two weeks. This advertisement interested me because it involved doing less work in an area I hate spending time cleaning. Often time advertisements interest me when they are eliminating stress or fixing something I think is wrong. I think that is the problem many people have addresses with advertisements in the past, especially advertisements targeting women. Women, it seams, like to fix things even themselves. There is a standard women feel they need to uphold and that is primarily due to advertisements, as seen in the video we watched in class. For this reason many people are affected by ads that target something they think is wrong or could be fixed with themselves or something they interact with. Advertisements are very influential in this way. There is nothing we can do about this advertisement overload and that is a problem with media today. It has an every lasting influence.

How do you know someone is lying to you?
Determining if someone is lying to you is very similar to the research process. If you have the a feeling someone is lying to you, you often will establish research questions. For instance, why would this person be lying to me? What would they be lying about? Why are they hiding what they are? Once these questions are established one might look for previous "research" such as past experiences of this person lying or other peoples experiences of this person lying. Once a basic understanding about the personal past history of lying is established new questions might be added and it is time to begin ones methodology in discovering if the person is lying. One would begin collecting and gathering date maybe through a "interview" or one on one talk with the person about the topic of the lie. Or maybe researching facts related to the lie such as people that might have been with the person or seen something. Once all the data is collected about the person and the lie it is time to come to conclusions. Most of the time through this process one can determine if the person is lying and have evidence to back this belief. In this regards, the process of determining if someone if lying is very similar to the research process in qualitative research topics.
Office Tigers
I found it very interesting that Seth, one the American employees, found it so hard to believe that during one of his teaching sessions the Indian employees commented that everyone does there job for the money. In my Christian Moral Life class we have recently been covering business ethics and this topic has come up; wether people work strictly for money. As a class we came to the conclusion that people do not in fact always become educated and seek a hight profession for money alone. However, we came to this conclusion because we established money as a means to an end and the end is what we really strive for. However, I believe that what we are truly seeking the happiness we feel from these ends. To feel this happiness we need all the sequences. Therefore, we need the money to ultimately make us happy. For this reason I agree with the Indian employees. We all want to achieve happiness and we need money to get us to that ultimate goal. Why do think Seth was so shocked all the employees suggested money as the reason to work hard? Do you think this is the case in most American companies?
