True of False

Everyone has fallen victim to popups on the interned offering free products such as ipods and vacations. The question is wether there popups are true. One goes through a quick investigation similar to the research process. One would ask why the web page might offer such gifts, who exactly is offering these gifts, who can win them if it is true. After these questions are established, the person should investigate the web page. Is it a well known company that can be trusted. This might be done by looking at names of people or of the companies that own and run the web sight. The person might also investigate through the web page why the company is giving away these prizes. The person might have previous experience with filling out popup ads for gifts. The investigator might also go as far as filling out the information to get the prizes and see what the end resultant is. If the person believes the advertisement to be true there is not reason they should not trust the sight to be truly offering products. That seems to be highly unlikely though since I am sure we have all fallen for these ads just become disappointed when nothing comes of it. However, the process is much smaller but very similar to any research process. There is a chain of events that brings us to a conclusion about the situation.

  1. I click on these advertisements occasionally to see if there is any truth behind them. I have yet to find on that I believe is completely legitimate. If you click on a link and it wants to redirect you to another website, I do not go any farther than that. Sometimes the website wants you to subscribe to something for a month. That requires you to write all your information which may be put out to companies that will send you junk mail. I am holding out hope that one of these days the ad will be true, but i'm not holding my breath.

  2. I never click on any of the pop-up ads because they are usually some type of virus. I learned that the hard way after finding out our computer had over 100 viruses found after we had to take it in to get it repaired. I won't even look at them anymore. I can not stand the pop-ups. Luckily, I switched internet browsers so I do not have that problem anymore. I have never believed what any of the pop-ups have ever advertised. I think that it is just all a scam.
